How to Measure a Cat or Dog for a Bed: A Practical Size Checklist
Choose a pet bed by usable sleeping space, not just S, M or L. Observe how your cat or dog rests, measure that occupied space, then compare it with the bed's interior and opening. A breed name or weight band alone is not a fit check.
Measure the space your pet actually uses
Start when your pet is resting naturally. Keep a soft tape or ruler nearby, but do not wake, restrain or reposition the pet to take a measurement. Note the approximate length and width of the space occupied in a relaxed position. Repeat when the pet chooses to stretch out, rather than measuring only a tightly curled pose.

Keep one unit throughout. To convert, one inch equals 2.54 centimetres. Do not compare a measurement in centimetres with a chart labelled in inches. If the chart has no unit or does not say whether its numbers describe the pet or the bed, ask before choosing.
How much extra room should you add?
